MA’E MIMIU HAW – THE STORY OF THE CHANTS

(MA’E MIMIU HAW – A HISTÓRIA DOS CANTOS)

Maranhão/Pernambuco, 2019, 27'

Brazilian Competition 1

The first image inhabited by the sounds of different birds prepares the film for the chants and words of Tachico Guajajara. Tachico walks silently around the Maçaranduba village. He pauses for a while and summons Tepetepen, the master of chants. When he addresses the person behind the camera, we sense his intimacy not only with the environment, but also with those who film it. The chants have always been there, but if they’re not remembered, they may disappear.
