SCUM MANIFESTO

(SCUM MANIFESTO)

France, 1976, 27'

Carole 2

A staged reading of passages from the “SCUM Manifesto”, by Valerie Solanas, published in 1967, which quickly sold out in French. Delphine Seyrig translates some passages for Carole Roussopoulos, who types them on the typewriter. In the background, a television channel broadcasts live images from the news, on which we hear, at certain points, apocalyptic news. Like the book, the film is a pamphlet against the society dominated by the “masculine” image and the “virile” action.
