Open Submissions

FestCurtasBH – Belo Horizonte International Short Film Festival, one of the most important events of diffusion and promotion of the short film format in Brazil, has just opened the submissions for its 21st edition that will take place from August 09 to August 18, 2019 at Cine Humberto Mauro, Palácio das Artes. In 2018, during its 10 days programming, the festival has screened 138 short films from 70 countries, with the attendance of more than 5.000 spectators. In the last call for entries, FestCurtasBH has received more than 2.500 submissions.

Filmmakers may submit their short films from February 12 to March 29, 2019 through the online platform Shortfilmdepot (www.shortfilmdepot.com). In order to be considered, short films must have been completed after January 1, 2018 and must not exceed 40 minutes in length. All genres can be accepted, except advertising and/or institutional films, in DCP, 35mm and/or 16mm screening formats.

The curating and selection of the short films that will compose the programming of the festival will be in charge of a Committee of Selection, invited by the festival’s organization, that will also be responsible for deciding in which sections of the festival the selected films will be featured. Later, the selected list will become available to participants.

During the festival, a specialized jury will consider all films of the Competitive sections and will choose the winners of the Capivara’s Award of Best Film in each category (Minas, Brazil and International). Short films selected for non-competitive sections of the festival, are eligible for the Vote of the Public Award.

All films selected for screening at the 21st edition of FestCurtasBH and its respective sections are set to be available on June 10, 2019 at www.festcurtasbh.com.br and www.fcs.mg.gov.br.
