Youth Exhibition - Presentation

What would be a youth film? The one done by young people, with young characters or with a young thematic? A question which does not lead to one and only right answer. Maybe it’s all of these. Maybe not only this.
Some films seem to bring in its construction something that refers directly to questions of an age bracket from late childhood to the early years of adulthood. A complicated phase full of questions, doubts, anxieties. Life’s responsibility pushes the youngsters to place themselves in the world and requires them to produce. And that’s why, having all these films, it seemed quite interesting a film festival that could show this universe as a whole. There are films about the first sentimental and sexual findings (Biondina; Eu não quero voltar sozinho; Souslalâmeetl’épée;Ik Ben EenMeijes!), or about a childish look that shocks with the adult world which is rather complicated (Ratão; La filleetlechasseur; Sturmfrei; Imagine uma menina com cabelos de Brasil...; A conquista do espaço).
This is essentially a moment in life in which some plans make sense, and defeat, loss and weakness are always hard, but also a reason to recover and start once again (Julho, Agosto, Setembro; César!; L’estatechenonviene; Hitomi). Thus, it’s necessary to recognize different spaces, different worlds, go ahead, either with a group or by oneself (Hidegzuhany, Pude ver un puma).

For the first time in the festival, the Youth Exhibition searches, fundamentally, the junction of different views related to gender, places, anxieties and wishes. Notwithstanding all these differences, these films keep similarities among them: the concern about the typical world of a certain age period. The world for them is always an opening of one’s own self.
